The new academic year 2024-2025 began with an opening ceremony at Hoa Sen University under the theme “Hoa Sen Go Global.�?This marked an important milestone, setting the stage for an engaging international-standard learning journey.
Before entering the official semester, first-year students (K24) joined international field trips, a valuable foundation for applying knowledge throughout their 3.5-year program here.
During the opening ceremony and the welcome event for new students for the 2024-2025 academic year, Hoa Sen University signed a media training partnership with Tuoi Tre Newspaper. As part of this, HSU students will practice the “Media document creation skills�?module directly at the Tuoi Tre newsroom, led by experienced editors, reporters, and leaders from the newspaper.
At the October 5th opening ceremony, numerous Sen Elite and Corporate Partnership scholarships, totaling over VND 2 billion, were awarded to recognize students’ efforts over the past academic year and to encourage them to strive further in their studies. Especially, Hoa Sen – De Montfort students received scholarships presented by Miss Universe Vietnam 2024, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen.
Within the framework of the 5th Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum in 2024 chaired by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs and Hoa Sen University jointly organized an inspirational talk show for young people and students with Professor Klaus Schwab – Founder and Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) with the theme: “Knowledge Economy �?Foundation for a Prosperous Future and Action of the Youth”.

The internship week began with an inspiring speech by Dr. Ho Truc Vi, Dean of the International Training Institute. In her speech, Dr. Ho Truc Vi introduced Hoa Sen University �?a prestigious university known for its modern facilities and dedicated faculty. She also highlighted the role of the Institute of International Education in connecting students to international-standard education through a partnership program with De Montfort University (UK).
Following the impressive opening speech, the ceremony moved to a segment where gifts and internship cards were given to participating students. With the presence of Vice Dean Phu Truong Thang and Vice Dean Phan Trong Nhan, students received meaningful gifts, including handwritten cards with motivational messages, internship badges, DMU lanyards, and exclusive DMU notebooks.
These gifts are not only souvenirs but also practical tools to help students easily track and record information throughout their learning journey. The internship badge and lanyard, in particular, give students a sense of pride, marking the start of a fresh learning experience in an international environment.
One of the most anticipated activities on the first day of the internship week was the campus tour. Students were divided into two groups of 12 to explore the university campus together. The campus tour was an opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the learning environment and understand the dynamic atmosphere of university life. This tour also allowed students to meet faculty members and staff who would accompany them throughout this exciting internship week.
Additionally, students were introduced to the “useful book�?�?a handy guide containing information about nearby dining spots, contact details of Institute staff, and people available to assist students throughout the week. This booklet is expected to help Vinschool students adapt and make the most of the experience at Hoa Sen – De Montfort.
Another highlight of the internship week was the specialized classes designed to help students develop practical skills. The first class, “Intercultural communication in the business environment�?was taught by Dr. Edward Liam Henry Hockings, who brings extensive experience in philosophy, bioethics, international relations, political theory, and sociology.
In this class, students were encouraged to participate in group communication activities, role-playing, and case studies, improving their professional communication skills and deepening their understanding of the importance of interacting with diverse cultures in a global work environment. The entire class was conducted in English, allowing students to practice language skills and gain confidence in communication.
The final class of the day was designed to provide students with foundational knowledge in finance, titled “Introduction to Finance.�?Lecturer Nghiem Tan Phong, with extensive experience in finance, guided students through the core elements of the field. Throughout the session, students learned how to analyze financial reports, understand the economic landscape, and develop strategic thinking to apply in real-world situations. By analyzing and practicing on real-life scenarios, students gained a deeper insight into how finance operates and its role within businesses.

On the first day, Vinschool students receive a warm welcome and an introduction to the field trip program, gaining a clear overview of the schedule and upcoming activities. Kicking off the September events were the fresh and exciting experiences for Hoa Sen – De Montfort students, taught directly by the editors and reporters of Thanh Nien Newspaper.
During a learning trip to Thanh Nien Newspaper’s headquarters, the freshmen got to “step into the shoes” of a TV editor and try their hand at delivering short news clips like a TV host in the newsroom. Previously, Hoa Sen University and Thanh Nien Newspaper signed a cooperation agreement, meaning students will be taught by a team of professional reporters and editors from Thanh Nien—a highly anticipated experience!
Pickleball, the popular international sport, has officially landed at Hoa Sen. Not only does it help students stay fit, but it also provides an opportunity to connect with international friends. Who’s excited to try this hot new sport at Hoa Sen?
In September, students of the Hoa Sen Go Global program explored international destinations such as South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Recently, HSU hosted a meeting with representatives from UOW College Australia to expand collaboration opportunities and international student exchanges. Ms. Harrison shared an overview of the culture, mission, and core values of De Montfort University, a prestigious institution with a long history in the UK. Through this, students gained deeper insights into the international standards the program offers. This event kicked off a series of August activities, featuring Dr. Nguyen Chi Duy Khuong (Deputy Director of the International Training Institute) and Mr. Mike Gibson, a lecturer at De Montfort University. In this broadcast, parents and students were provided with comprehensive information about the structure, goals, and benefits of the IYZ program, as well as the importance of critical thinking. The session analyzed the essential role of critical thinking in enhancing learning quality and applying it in real life.
The Hoa Sen Go Global flight landed in Taiwan �?famously known as the “Asian Dragon�?with its unique culture and high-quality education. During the six-day trip, students studied at Formosa National University and experienced the production process at Coating Fine Chemical �?a recycling plastic manufacturer, where the 2022 World Cup ball was produced.
In this trip, new Hoa Sen students had new experiences to prepare for their upcoming university journey. They interacted with international students from leading universities in the region, learning valuable knowledge. Additionally, they enjoyed fun activities before the new academic year began.
This was a special talk with Dr. Tùng Đào, the only Vietnamese lecturer at De Montfort University and a senior lecturer in Business Management. It explored international learning opportunities at De Montfort University in the UK. The livestream provided a comprehensive view of the academic program, key benefits, and how students can experience a world-class learning environment.
This event was not just a concert but also included an exhibition, creating an emotional space for guests to understand the challenges and obstacles students face on their way to school, along with their simple and humble dreams. From this compassion, the event invited attendees to participate in fundraising and auction activities to raise funds for the “Little Loving Rose�?scholarship in the 2024-2025 academic year, providing education access and a brighter future for underprivileged children, especially those in remote and underserved areas.
Students had the opportunity to engage in various elite sports such as golf, pickleball, archery, shooting, kickboxing, Muay Thai, dance sports, baseball, and hockey, tailored to their interests and abilities. One of the most impressive moments of the opening ceremony was the heartfelt speech by Mr. Ian Thomas, Associate Dean – Faculty of Business and International Law at De Montfort University (United Kingdom). With sincere encouragement, he emphasized that Hoa Sen – De Montfort students will benefit from an internationally recognized program, comparable to students studying at the main campus in Leicester.
Mr. Thomas also affirmed, “When you graduate, you will not only hold an official bachelor’s degree from the UK, but also a key to unlocking numerous job opportunities and career development in the global market.” This is a strong commitment to the quality of education offered by the Hoa Sen – De Montfort program, instilling firm confidence in new students as they embark on their academic journey. Amid the excitement of the ceremony, one of the highlights was the recognition of outstanding new students with the Go Global scholarship.
