About the Tyler Prize
The John and Alice Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, administered by the University of Southern California, awards $250,000 annually for scientific work on the environment, energy, and health that benefits humanity. Endowed by the John and Alice Tyler Charitable Trusts, the prize is determined by the Executive Committee. Joint winners share the cash prize.
The fundamental objective of the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement
- Protecting, maintaining, improving, or comprehending an ecological or environmental situation;
- Discover, create, or upgrade sustainable energy sources;
- Understanding and improving planetary health, as well as global solutions.
Eligibility
Individuals and public or private organizations are eligible for consideration. Nominations from all parts of the world are welcomed and encouraged.
Nomination Criteria
- Be based on strong science, including natural and, or social sciences;
- Address global inequalities and solutions;
- Demonstrate measurable/scalable impacts on an environmental issue, policy, or practice.
- Demonstrate engagement with the younger generation.
Who May Nominate:
Persons or groups making nominations should be aware of how their nominee’s achievements align with the criteria outlined above, and will be asked a series of questions in the nomination form to address these issues.

Submissions for the 2025 cycle are now open
Only in the event that a nominee’s name makes it to the short list will the nominators be informed by September 27, 2024. Your candidate may be given further years of consideration if you are not informed that they have made it to the short list (all nominations are evaluated for a total of 3 years, which includes the nomination year). You will have the option to amend the nomination for the 2026 cycle, if your candidacy receives consideration for extra years.
