“Ươm Ôm Ấm” Project – SUSTAINABLE PROJECT FOR THE COMMUNITY

On November 5, 2023, the “Warm Nurturing #1: Thien Duyen Shelter” project took place successfully with the participation of students from the Faculty of Social Sciences – Law, Hoa Sen University.

The Embrace Warm Project is implemented to support disadvantaged communities sustainably

“Ươm Ôm Ấm #1: Thien Duyen Shelter” belongs to the Warm Embrace project – aiming to sustainably support disadvantaged communities through legal and psychological support for subjects as well as organizations. position. Besides, this is also an opportunity for students to practice, experience, and apply the knowledge they have learned in a real-life environment. Contribute your part to society.

The Organizing Committee’s first trip stopped at Thien Duyen Shelter – where love and warmth are spread. Here, Hoa Sen Univeristy had the opportunity to learn about developing the Shelter. Originating from the camaraderie, Mrs.Muoi (real name is Tran Thi Cam Giang, born in 1938) – was a female soldier during the resistance war against the US. Originally a child of the steel land of Cu Chi, she joined the revolution at the age of 14. After liberation, she was elected chairman of the People’s Committee of Ward 23, Tan Binh District (now Ward 10, Tan Binh District) for 2 terms. Mrs.Muoi adopted the children of soldiers who unfortunately died. From a small family to a large family, with love, Mrs.Muoi has adopted nearly 160 children and the elderly (mainly disabled children and lonely, helpless elderly people…).

The project is carried out with the support of the Institute for Research and Consulting on Psychological Solutions and lecturers from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law.

A house with many members but always clean and airy. Currently, the shelter is divided into separate areas suitable for each group: Children with cerebral palsy, children with mild illnesses, normal children, the elderly… Children who come to the shelter without a name will follow the Tran family name, and take the middle name Thien (for boys) or Duyen (for girls). Here, taking care of children with cerebral palsy is not simple, requiring great compassion to overcome obstacles. For the orphans, each person has their circumstances: Some were picked up at the graves, some were abandoned outside the gate of the shelter, and their biological parents abandoned some because they knew their child was sick. … The efforts of Mrs.Muoi and the volunteers at the shelter are something we cannot deny. Mrs.Muoi always wants to bring the best living conditions for her “children” in living space, learning, and working conditions.

The organizers and students visited and talked with the children at the Shelter

Coming to Thien Duyen Shelter for the first time, the Organizing Committee of the “Ươm Ôm Ấm” Project coordinated with the Business Department (Vietjet Airline Box Office) to bring material and spiritual resources to support the shelter. Regarding the legal field, with support from Dr. Nguyen Hoai Nam – Program Director of the Economic Law Program, Faculty of Social Sciences – Law, and students of Economic Law Course K21, K22 and K23 – Hoa Sen University provided legal advice on the difficulties that Mrs.Muoi and the shelter are facing (procedures for making birth certificates for abandoned children; declaring temporary residence and temporary absence for shelter members; organizations receiving charitable sources…). Regarding psychology, the Deputy Institute for Research and Consulting on Psychological Solutions, Faculty of Social Sciences – Law, Nguyen Tan Phuong Hong, and students majoring in Psychology – at Hoa Sen University consulted and shared below. The psychological perspective of Mrs. Muoi and the members here covers the endless worries and concerns in a life full of worries and hardships. Now 85 years old, when talking about her wishes for tomorrow, Mrs. Muoi frankly shared: “I don’t wish anything for myself, I only wish to find someone with enough virtue to continue my work.” mine. She also fervently wished that the people called the parents would never have to take their children away and throw them away. By doing so, mothers may not know that they have sown pain and resentment in their children’s hearts that cannot be washed away. Many children of Thien Duyen’s home grew up feeling guilty, some lived in isolation, torturing themselves with their lives. The pain doesn’t know when it will end.”

The organizing committee not only provides spiritual but also material resources

The “Ươm Ôm Ấm” project will not stop here, it is a lasting project. And therefore, the Organizing Committee looks forward to your companionship in the next project trips.

“To continue to Incubate, we need a sustainable development plan to nurture the next generation. To spread sympathy and love, we must embrace ourselves and our teammates. And then, Warmth will continue to spread, bringing this message to the community more widely.”
