HOA SEN UNIVERSITY IS HONORABLE TO ORGANIZE THE 1st “HCMC LOGISTICS FORUM” WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRY AND TRADE AND LOGISTICS ASSOCIATION OF HCMC – 2022

On the afternoon of September 30, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with Hoa Sen University and Ho Chi Minh City Logistics Association (HLA) to organize the first Ho Chi Minh City Logistics Forum in 2022 (HCMC Log 2022).

After a period of urgent preparation, the city has shaped the direction and is focusing on implementing the key tasks of the industry in the overall plan to develop the Logistics industry to 2025, with a vision to 2030. In Accordingly, focusing on forming Logistics centers and developing human resources are key tasks in the three main pillars of developing the city’s Logistics industry.

According to Vice President Phan Thi Thang, Ho Chi Minh City is determined to become a training center and provide logistics human resources for the southern region and the whole country. However, the connection between the system of training schools and logistics businesses is not tight, lacking interaction and connection to capture needs from training to output; On the other hand, the quality of logistics human resources is not commensurate with the city’s development potential.

By 2030, the demand for human resources in the entire industry is over 200,000 people, Ho Chi Minh City alone needs about 100,000 people, 10,000 people are needed each year while each year the schools train 2,500 students and trainees/year.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vo Thi Ngoc Thuy, president of Hoa Sen University, said that Vietnam’s productivity in Southeast Asia is only higher than Cambodia’s labor productivity (1.6 times). Low and unsustainable labor productivity is a cause of high logistics costs. Assessing the situation of logistics human resources, Associate Professor Dr. Thuy mentioned 4 bottlenecks: supply-demand mismatch, lower labor productivity than other countries in the region; human resources and digital transformation; society’s awareness of the profession.

From the above 4 bottlenecks, the principal of Hoa Sen University offers solutions and shares the business model that the school is implementing. First, it is necessary to build an ecosystem of training and developing Logistics human resources between three houses: the state, schools and businesses, and this ecosystem must create a connection into one house, thereby sharing. resources between training institutions and businesses.

“Currently, the school effectively applies the school and business model for the tourism industry. Specifically, for the Hoa Sen Elite program, students have 2 years of actual study at school and 2 years of actual work at a business. The school provides theoretical training. Enterprises provide hands-on training – real work. This avoids the need for schools to train and businesses to train, and avoids wasting “twice”. Wasting students’ time, it takes many years for students to be able to apply it to their profession,” Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc Thuy added.
