Hoa Sen University: Plan for organizing the Proposal Evaluation Committee, Thesis Defense Committee & Implementation of Internships for the Master’s Program 2023-2024

Based on the approved academic plan for the 2023 – 2024 academic year by the Board of Directors, the Postgraduate Institute & Leadership would like to announce to students the plan for organizing the thesis proposal evaluation councils, the Master’s Thesis Defense Council, as well as the implementation of the internship plan for students in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Arts in English (MAE), and Master of Tourism Service Management & Travel (MAT) programs as follows:

I. Plan for organizing the Master’s Thesis Proposal Evaluation Council in Business Administration:

  1. Eligibility & Registration Conditions:

Students enrolled in the MBA program who have accumulated a minimum of 30 credits in the training program, including:

i. Have completed 9 credits in the Compulsory Specialized Knowledge block.

ii. Have completed the Research Methods in Scientific Research course.

  1. Organization Plan:

i. Proposal Evaluation Council – Round 1:

  • Registration and submission period: August 14, 2023 – August 27, 2023
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: September 11, 2023 – September 18, 2023

ii. Proposal Evaluation Council – Round 2:

  • Registration and submission period: October 9, 2023 – October 23, 2023
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: November 6, 2023 – November 13, 2023

iii. Proposal Evaluation Council – Round 3:

  • Registration and submission period: December 5, 2023 – December 18, 2023
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: January 1, 2024 – January 8, 2024

iv. Proposal Evaluation Council – Round 4:

  • Registration and submission period: February 26, 2024 – March 11, 2024
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: March 25, 2024 – April 7, 2024

v. Proposal Evaluation Council – Round 5:

  • Registration and submission period: April 22, 2024 – May 5, 2024
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: May 20, 2024 – May 26, 2024

vi. Proposal Evaluation Council – Round 6:

  • Registration and submission period: June 6, 2024 – June 23, 2024
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: July 15, 2024 – July 21, 2024

>> Procedure and guidance for Master’s Thesis Proposal Defense

  • Students can download application forms from the website under the section “Thesis Proposal Defense Guidelines” and submit them within the specified period announced by the Institute before each evaluation round.
  • Proposal evaluation councils will only be held when a sufficient number of students register (minimum of 4 students per council).
  • Students who register but fail to submit their documents on time or do not participate in the defense will be required to pay a re-defense fee for the next round: 2.000.000 VND per instance.

II. Plan for organizing the Research Proposal Defense Council in English Language Studies:

  1. Eligibility & Registration Conditions:

Students enrolled in the MAE program (from the 6th cohort and earlier) who have accumulated a minimum of 30 credits in the training program, including:

i. Have completed 9 credits in the Compulsory Specialized Knowledge block.

ii. Have completed the Research Methods in Applied Linguistics course.

  1. Organization Plan:

i. Research Proposal Defense Council – Round 1:

  • Registration and submission period: August 14, 2023 – August 27, 2023
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: September 11, 2023 – September 18, 2023

ii. Research Proposal Defense Council – Round 2:

  • Registration and submission period: November 1, 2023 – November 12, 2023
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: December 4, 2023 – December 10, 2023

iii. Research Proposal Defense Council – Round 3:

  • Registration and submission period: February 26, 2024 – March 10, 2024
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: March 25, 2024 – March 31, 2024

iv. Research Proposal Defense Council – Round 4:

  • Registration and submission period: May 20, 2024 – June 2, 2024
  • Estimated evaluation council dates: June 17, 2024 – June 23, 2024

  • Students can download application forms from the website under the section “Thesis Proposal Defense Guidelines” and submit them within the specified period announced by the Institute before each evaluation round.
  • Defense councils will only be held when a sufficient number of students register (minimum of 4 students per council).

III. Plan for organizing the Master’s Thesis Defense Council:

  1. Eligibility & Registration Conditions:

Before each registration period, students enrolled in the MBA, MAE, and MAT programs must meet all of the following conditions:

i. Complete the training program (meet the credit accumulation requirements for all courses except the Thesis) and have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 5.5 or above.

ii. Meet the foreign language proficiency requirements according to the training regulations applicable to the course. (Refer to the information on converting foreign language certificates for the Master’s program training here)

iii. Do not violate any regulations of the University regarding postgraduate education.

iv. Comply with postgraduate training regulations set by the Higher Education Institution.

v. There has been a decision on the assignment of a thesis advisor and research topic. Students are required to conduct the thesis within a minimum period of 6 months.

  1. Organization Plan:

i. Thesis Defense Council – Round 1:

  • Registration and submission period: August 7, 2023 – August 14, 2023
  • Estimated defense council dates: August 28, 2023 – September 4, 2023

ii. Thesis Defense Council – Round 2:

  • Registration and submission period: December 4, 2023 – December 11, 2023
  • Estimated defense council dates: January 1, 2024 – January 8, 2024

iii. Thesis Defense Council – Round 3:

  • Registration and submission period: March 11, 2024 – March 18, 2024
  • Estimated defense council dates: April 15, 2024 – April 21, 2024

iv. Thesis Defense Council – Round 4:

  • Registration and submission period: June 3, 2024 – June 10, 2024
  • Estimated defense council dates: July 9, 2024 – July 15, 2024

  • Students can download application forms from the website under the section “Master’s Thesis Defense Procedure and Guidance” and submit them within the specified period announced by the Institute before each evaluation round.
  • Defense councils will only be held when a sufficient number of students register (minimum of 4 students per council).
  • Students who register but fail to submit their documents on time or do not participate in the defense will be required to pay a re-defense fee for the next round: 5,000,000 VND per instance.

IV. Plan for implementing the Graduate Internship Program:

  1. Eligibility and Registration Conditions:
    • Students enrolled in cohorts starting from the 2022 admission year and have internship courses in their training program. Students must have accumulated a minimum of 30 out of 60 total credits in the program. Depending on the specific program, students must accumulate a certain number of required credits, as follows:
    The compulsory courses to be accumulated in the MBA program:
    • Research Methods in Scientific Research (4 credits)
    • 2 Compulsory Specialized Knowledge courses (6 credits)

The compulsory courses to be accumulated in the MAE program:

  • Research Methods in Applied Linguistics (3 credits)
  • 3 compulsory courses in the specialized knowledge block (9 credits)

The compulsory courses to be accumulated in the MAT program:

  • Research Methods in Scientific Research (4 credits)
  • 2 courses in the Specialized Knowledge block (8 credits)

– Students have been assigned a thesis advisor and have obtained approval from the Program Director and the Postgraduate Institute & Leadership.

2. Organization Plan

The internship program will be organized at the beginning of each semester with the following tentative schedule:

Internship Semester 2341 (1st Semester of the 2023-2024 academic year)

  • Registration period: July 24, 2023 – July 31, 2023
  • Expected internship period: August 7, 2023 – October 2, 2023

Internship Semester 2342 (2nd Semester of the 2023-2024 academic year)

  • Registration period: October 23, 2023 – October 30, 2023
  • Expected internship period: November 6, 2023 – December 31, 2023

Internship Semester 2343 (3rd Semester of the 2023-2024 academic year)

  • Registration period: January 22, 2024 – January 29, 2024
  • Expected internship period: February 19, 2024 – April 14, 2024

Internship Semester 2344 (4th Semester of the 2023-2024 academic year)

  • Registration period: April 29, 2024 – May 6, 2024
  • Expected internship period: May 13, 2024 – July 7, 2024
