Closing ceremony of the official site visit at Hoa Sen University

On the afternoon of November 27, 2019, the closing ceremony for the official site visit at Hoa Sen University (HSU) was held at the Nguyen Van Trang campus.

The ceremony was attended by the assessor team consisting of

• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duy Cam, Former President of the Vietnam National University – Hanoi University of Science, Head of the Assessor Team
• Mr. Dinh Tuan Dung (Master), Head of the Education Quality Assessment Department, Centre for Education Accreditation, Association of Vietnam Universities and Colleges, Secretary of the Assessor team
• Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Dong, Senior Lecturer at the National Economics University, Member of the Assessor team

Representing HSU were

• Meritorious Teacher Prof. Dr. Mai Hong Quy, President of HSU, Chairman of the Self-Assessment Council
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – Vice President of HSU, Vice Chairman of the Self-Evaluation Council
• Dr. Vu Tuong Thuy – Vice President of HSU, Member of the Self-Assessment Council
• Dr. Phan Thi Viet Nam, Head of the Office of Testing – Quality Assurance, Secretary of the Self-Assessment Council

Along with the Self-Assessment Council, specialized task force groups along with representatives from various units and associations of Hoa Sen University, representatives of faculty, students, and guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duy Cam stated that the team’s working principle was professional, impartial, and fair. He also summarized the preliminary results, saying, “Since receiving the self-assessment report from the university, I found it to be very comprehensive, reflecting the university’s diverse activities. Therefore, during our work, we tried to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the university, making discoveries to gain a deeper insight, and from there, we made recommendations for the university to improve in the coming time. Our recommendations are based on the current operations of the university and the experience of domestic universities as well as the advanced university management experience that HSU is also following towards international integration.”

Meritorious Teacher Prof. Dr. Mai Hong Quy expressed deep gratitude to the assessor team after five days of intense and effective work at HSU and to the entire HSU staff for their hard work over the past period. The President of HSU stated: “The very accurate observations, the valuable and objective evaluations by the team will help the university to perfect and develop in line with the expectations of investors, our lecturers, HSU students, and the society in the coming time. The assessment results from the assessors will not be wasted, and we will take them very seriously.” Meritorious Teacher Prof. Dr. Mai Hong Quy also mentioned that in the coming time, HSU would organize a study session to thoroughly understand all the issues that the assessor team had recommended.

Previously, the assessor team conducted the official site visit at HSU at the main campus at 8 Nguyen Van Trang, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City for three days, from November 21 to 27, 2019, after carrying out a preliminary visit of HSU.

Since 2018, HSU has begun its self-assessment at the institutional level according to Circular 12 issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on May 19, 2017. Through the self-assessment process, HSU has now completed its self-assessment report.

In 2015, HSU was the first university in Vietnam to have 5 academic programs in the field of economics (including Marketing, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Accounting, Finance – Banking) accredited according to the ACBSP standards of the United States. In 2019, HSU had two more programs, English Language Studies and Hotel Management, successfully assessed by the AUN-QA (Southeast Asia).
