Hoa Sen University welcomes the assessment team for the preliminary visit

On the morning of November 8, 2019, at the Nguyen Van Trang campus, Hoa Sen University (HSU) organized an opening session to welcome the assessment team from the Center for Education Accreditation under the Association of Vietnam Universities and Colleges (CEA-AVU&C) for the preliminary visit.

The assessment team included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nga – Director of the CEA-AVU&C, consultant expert; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duy Cam – Head of the assessor team; Mr. Dinh Tuan Dung, MSc – Head of the Quality Assessment Department, Secretary of the assessor team; and Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Chief of Office, administrative support staff for the assessor team.

From HSU, the representatives include: Meritorious Teacher, Professor, Dr. Mai Hong Quy – President, Chair of the Self-Assessment Council (SAC); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – Vice President, Vice Chair of the SAC; Dr. Vu Tuong Thuy – Vice President, Member of the SAC; Dr. Phan Thi Viet Nam – Head of the Office of Testing – Quality Assurance, Secretary of the SAC, along with leaders of various units, departments, and organizations of the university. Additionally, the event was attended by observers from Gia Dinh University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nga stated that the main goal of the visit is to objectively affirm to the public, not only in Vietnam but also internationally, how HSU is assessed and to provide recommendations on what has been achieved and what has not at HSU. With an objective spirit, the assessment team will act correctly and only affirm when there is full evidence.

Prof. Dr. Mai Hong Quy also mentioned that, despite being very busy with many important activities, the HSU management board is very concerned about the quality accreditation process and has spent a lot of time directing closely and decisively to make solid steps. She also affirmed the purpose of HSU’s accreditation “is to know where we are, what we are like, and what we have to do next.” According to her, this accreditation is valuable, but the quality of HSU’s education has been affirmed before, and the university has also undergone various accreditations. HSU has a reputable position in quality education, contributing to the community, and the position of students and alumni with businesses has confirmed this. Today’s results reflect the quality of the university, but they also show the effort of the HSU personnel.

“We hope that after this accreditation, the team will provide guidance so that HSU does not stop at the assessment score but will achieve a significantly high score in a short time, reflecting the true nature of HSU,” Meritorious Teacher. Prof. Dr. Mai Hong Quy expressed.

During the visit, the assessment team visited several locations prepared for the official survey (such as workspaces, interview rooms, etc.), conducted a preliminary check of the evidence boxes, and reported on the results of the self-assessment document review. The assessment team also exchanged and discussed with the HSU Self-Assessment Council to agree on the content prepared for the team’s official visit at HSU. According to the plan, the assessment team will conduct the official site visit at HSU from November 21 to 27, 2019.

At the end of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nga, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duy Cam, and Meritorious Teacher. Prof. Dr. Mai Hong Quy together signed the minutes of the meeting after the preliminary survey by the assessment team at HSU.

Since 2018, HSU has begun its self-assessment at the institutional level according to Circular 12 issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on May 19, 2017. Through the self-assessment process, HSU has now completed its self-assessment report. In 2015, HSU was the first university in Vietnam to have 5 academic programs in the field of economics (including Marketing, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Accounting, Finance – Banking) accredited according to the ACBSP standards of the United States. In 2019, HSU had two more programs, English Language Studies and Hotel Management, successfully assessed by the AUN-QA (Southeast Asia).
